Merlin May Spitfire Prop
An aircraft propeller blade is a beautiful piece of engineering in its own right. We like to give them a new lease of life as ‘objets d’art’, like this one mounted on a bespoke solid aluminium base and embellished with another of Carl’s original pin-up paintings. The propeller cowling in the picture is unmistakably that of a Spitfire, which was powered by the iconic Rolls Royce ‘Merlin’ engine. The saucy image of ‘Merlin May’ – the stuff of a fighter pilot’s dreams – makes an affectionate tribute. And standing at five and a half feet tall, it also makes an arresting piece of sculptural and graphic art.
